Fireworks – 1973
Fireworks over the lower city – from Sam Lawrence Park. (Personal these pictures were taken in May, 1973, just weeks after I moved to Hamilton – this was the first time I went to Sam Lawrence Park – a truly spectacular Hamilton mempry)

Photographic proof that, in the 70′s, fire works used to be launched right over the city; not just over the bay as is standard safety practice now, and people would gather in Sam Lawrence Park in droves to watch. I can clearly remember my sister and I walking out of the park after one display and having to contend with pedestrian and motor vehicle gridlock at Concession and Upper Wellington.
Withe way the displays were set off there were bursts that would seem to umbrella the entire city, and light up everything. Asa photographer, I would love to be able to shoot an event like that today.
I believe a bush on the side of the escarpment was caught on fire one year, and that helped drive a nail into the coffin of launching directly over the city.
